The Grammys Will Go On

The WGA released a statement yesterday revealing that they “voted not to picket” the Grammys Award show, February 10.
“Members of the American Federation of Musicians face many of the same issues concerning compensation in new media that we do,” the presidents of WGA West and East said in their statement.

“In the interest of advancing our goal of advancing a fair contract, the WGAW Board felt that this gesture should be made on behalf of our brothers and sisters in AFM and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).”

The controversy has been with the cross-over musicians with acting careers that might be crossing the picket line by appearing or performing at the show.

Beyonce is to perform this year with Tina Turner.

They can roll Beyonce on down the river and keep Tina Turner if it’s a problem.

Now the Writer’s Guild Wants to Picket the Grammy’s

The WGA has announced plans to picket the ceremony.

The ceremony is to air on CBS network which is part of the big media that is refusing to negotiate with the writers. However, the WGA already said it would refuse to grant the Grammy’s a waiver that would allow them to use WGA members to write the show.

It’s unclear how much of an impact a WGA picket line would have, but the kudocast will have to make do without the usual 10-20 actors who usually serve as presenters. Last year, for example, Quentin Tarantino, Luke Wilson, Nicolas Cage, Terrence Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Rock and David Spade appeared on the show.

This year also has a substantial number of nominated musicians who have appeared in films and on TV. Chief among them are Justin Timberlake, Queen Latifah, Tim McGraw, Beyonce, Jack White, Jon Bon Jovi, T.I. and Fantasia. Among the nominees who have historically not crossed picket lines are Bruce Springsteen, the Beastie Boys, Joni Mitchell, John Mellencamp and Steve Earle.

Please don’t pick on the Grammy’s!!
